Affect
Affect, it's the umbrella term in psychology for the full range of feelings, moods, and emotional states; from joy to grief, fear to euphoria, and everything in between.
Emotions do not arrive in isolation but they bleed into one another at the edges, the way grief can sharpen into gratitude, or how joy sometimes carries a hollow note of melancholy, as if the mind knows, even mid-celebration, that the moment is already leaving. What's even stranger is that the most untranslatable feelings such as the bittersweet ache of nostalgia, the odd vertigo of realizing a stranger is living an entire life as vivid as your own might be the most universally felt, as if the deepest of human experience resist language because they were never meant to be understood alone, only shared.
